Green Panels are becoming the new and preferred way of building straw bale structures. Built indoors these 8×8 straw bale panel walls are not exposed to the elements until after they are weather proofed. Building our panels indoors allows us to work year round on projects, speeding up the completion of your project by several months. As the foundation and floor are being completed so are the walls!

Green Panels are manufactured indoors at our McCord location. The panels are then shipped to the homeowners building site and assembled. When we arrive the foundation and floor should be complete. It takes as little as one to three days install the panels. Add to that, the time to frame the floor, roof and install windows and doors, you bring the building to lock-up stage in as little as one week.

Once the panels are in place and installed a finish coat of plaster can be applied. This coat is sometimes called the colour coat or finish coat and is optional as it is for appearances only.

Built with minimal framing, Green Panels fall into the modified post and beam style of straw bale construction, also called the hybrid system.

We work with a designer to assist you in developing a set of plans to suit your lifestyle. Once you have a layout you like we’ll have the plans stamped by an Engineer to ensure structural integrity. Following that you can take your plans to your general contractor, building official, and banker. If you are a general contractor interested in getting into green building let us help you.

Cost of green Panels:

Green Panels save money. We find that they can be installed and finished for about 10% less than straw bale walls built on site. The prices listed below are in Canadian Dollars:

  • 8×8 no window opening $1035
  • 8×8 with window opening $1310
  • 8×4 no window opening $915
  • 8×4 with window opening $1175

There are some costs which are applied once per project. Some of them are: delivery, ranging from $1300 to $2500 per project; design, and engineering ranging from $2000 to $2800 per project; and equipment rental, to unload at site $2000. Prices do not include taxes.

You may also wish to have a finish coat of stucco applied. If so speak to a local stuccoer about their costs.
